Preschool

In our Montessori preschool classroom, exploration and discovery are how a child becomes educated. They master their bodies, develop social skills, and learn to solve problems. A world that is rich in texture, color, developmentally appropriate materials, and the beauty of nature is within their reach.

Respect for the child and an understanding that each child is an individual are the principles upon which our teachers are trained. Our teachers help guide the children in our prepared classroom and model qualities the children will develop: curiosity, respect, compassion, humor, and honesty. North Oaks Montessori is committed to maintaining highly qualified staff whose values align with the Montessori method of teaching and a commitment to providing a caring, compassionate environment for every child in our care. Both the lessons and materials available in our preschool classroom cover the full scope of traditional Montessori materials including 5 basic areas of the classroom.
>> Exercises for daily living skills ( practical life)
>>  Math
>> Language
>> Materials that enliven your child’s exploration of touch, texture, sound, color, and shape (sensorial) and
>> Cultural subjects including Art, Music, Science, Geography and Botany.

There is also a lengthy free playtime to explore the natural setting of our playground. This unstructured playtime is very important to allow the children to use imaginary play, which is an essential component of learning at this age.

Summer Childcare Program

Our summer childcare program was added this year to accommodate parents who are in need of childcare services during the summer months. We will continue implementing a learning environment based on Montessori methods, however, our focus will be on nature and we will spend a longer period of our day outdoors!

We will continue to offer piano lessons for parents who enroll their children in lessons. We will have Soccer Shots visit weekly, and the planning is underway for lots of exciting nature walks and some field trips. Info will be posted as soon as our planning team has the schedule confirmed as to when and where our summer field trips will be.

We are so excited to see you all this summer and begin a new and exciting program that offers the same high-quality learning environment that has been offered for over 10 years here at North Oaks Montessori!

Toddler Program

Autonomy and independence

We use our specially designed classroom as a prepared learning environment to allow toddlers to explore and learn at their own pace, with a variety of age-appropriate materials and activities that encourage self-directed learning and exploration.

A sense of start and finish

Our teachers use the concept of start and finish as an important aspect of the learning process. It helps our toddlers understand the concept of completing a task or activity, and fosters a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.

Grace and courtesy

Young children are social beings, and we help them develop the social skills and manners they need in order to interact with others in a respectful and considerate way. This helps them to feel a sense of community, and supports their ability to collaborate with their peers and adults in a positive way.

Practical Life, Sensorial, and verbal Math and Language skills

Children in our toddler program are guided through a variety of activities and materials that support the development of their early practical life, sensorial, verbal, math, and language skills.

Balance and movement

Balance and movement are important aspects of our program. They support your child's physical development and coordination, and also promote their overall learning and well-being. Movement activities can help little ones to develop their ability to concentrate and focus, and can also promote peacefulness.

Social behavior (individually and in a group)

Social behavior is an important aspect of our toddler learning environment. Our teachers support the development of social behavior by creating a positive and nurturing environment that is supportive of the social, emotional, and cognitive development of each young student. This includes providing individualized attention and support, as well as respecting the inherent dignity and worth of every young learner. Teachers model and encourage graceful social behavior through their interactions with the children and the use of the learning materials. Activities like taking turns, sharing and role-play help students learn how to express themselves in healthy ways.
